Actor/Model Research

Actors:

Berkhart - Ollie Geraghty
Raven Hearst - Georgia Davidson

Berkhart

We decided that Ollie Geraghty would play Berkhart because he has experience of being on set in other media studies assignments and was available for the times that we wanted to film. Ollie also looks the part. We had other people in mind as well but none of them were available so Ollie stepped up to the task and was extremely helpful and full of energy when we were filming.

Raven Hearst

We decided that I would play Raven Hearst because I have the most acting experience and I would be available on the day that we wanted to shoot. Not only was I a handy choice I can also fit the character of Raven by wearing a smart skirt, blazer and heals. Although I am 17 and Raven is in her late twenties, early thirties we decided that with makeup and costume I can pull it off.

Questionaire Results - Audience Research

Our questionnaire results have showed us that all students, expect to see the same thing at the beginning of a crime-mystery film - the crime that has been committed.

To respond to their answers we have included a crime committed in the first few minutes. By using their answers to help us decide what to include in our film we are making our opening sequence appeal to our audience.

The audience are a very important factor to consider when making a film because ultimately without them there would be no film to make. This is why when you receive audience feedback, for example, answers to questionnaires, it is important to take what they say into consideration.

The other questions in the questionnaire are also really important, what your target audience do in their spare time can be used to make the characters easier to associate with. For example, if Francois likes going to the cinema then there could be a scene set in a cinema.

The audiences personality types are also really important, they can be used to make the characters more relatable and therefore the audience are more likely to want to go and see it. For example, Raven Hearst, although psychotic may find herself kind and generous, like Eleonore. Although Eleonore cannot relate to the psychotic behaviour of Hearst she can relate to how Hearst feels about herself.

The question that addresses the use of media platforms is very important in distribution and marketing of Black Widow because it gives us an idea of how we can use multi-media productions and social networking sites to advertise our film.

Certificates

Certificates are a really important part of the film industry. They define who your final audience will be as they establish how old you have to be to view a film.

The BBFC (British Broadcasting Film Company) are the company who assign certificates to every film that is being broadcast in Britain. Without the BBFC's certificate the film cannot be released in Britain.

When releasing our film we would have to go to the BBFC to negotiate the certificate that our film will be classed under.

We plan on our film being assigned the 15 certificate as this clearly marks our audience and we feel that the content will be suitable for this certificate.

Audience Research

To define our target audience we have to investigate both genres that we have merged into one; crime and mystery.
Crime films attract both a male and female audience, the certificate for these films is usually 15, therefore the age range should be around 15-40.
Mystery films require a lot more concentration and involve the audience to interact more with the film through problem solving but can also be more child orientated, this hints at the audience age being around 12-30 as well.
So merging both Crime and Mystery together our target audience should be aged about 15 to 35, being both males and females.

To define our target audience I will concentrate on two people, one male and one female, both of who will represent the audience profile.
